Creating a Library Space at Home

A study or a library space, no matter what you call it, is an absolute necessity these days, especially when the rest of the house is unable to help you focus on work. More so if you love reading books and own a bunch of them.

So for those of you who have a hard time organizing your collection of precious books, a good way to store them would be to create your very own library space at home.

Therefore, for today’s write up, we will be separating the article into two sections. One for small spaces and the other for lavish rooms dedicated for storing books. So no matter which you have space for, feel free to take inspiration from both.

Library for Small Spaces

If you do not have enough room for a huge library, here are some of the tricks that you can use to create a small library at home.

Wall Shelves

Wall shelves are the best alternative for an actual bookshelf because they take up no floor space. This means that you can still use up the floor space for other things. What’s more, you can create multiple wall shelves here and there since you have more than enough space on the wall.

All you have to do is just plan out where to place them. You can call in a professional to create the shelves for you, but if you want to design the space yourself, you can take inspiration from Pinterest.

Pinterest has some of the best ideas to offer when it comes to redecorating home spaces. You just have to type in what you are specifically looking for and it’ll show you an extensive list of ideas to work on.

Once you have figured out the spacing of the shelves, the rest should be easy to complete.

Lighting

This is important to create a cosy atmosphere while reading. An extremely bright white light might not be the best option when are talking about library spaces. What you can do instead is invest in an adjustable light intensity tech. This way you can dim or brighten up the space as per your mood. You can also invest in lamps or fairy lights to brighten up the space.

Table

Only invest in a table if you think you will actually put it to use for working or reading. In case you do not want four-legged tables, you can also customize one that is fixed to the wall and can be bent upwards. This clears up space when you are no longer using it.

Chair/Sofa

This solely depends on the amount of space you have left. If you like cosy places to read in, we suggest you get a cute sofa with a lamp table beside it. If not, then you get a small chair for the table you have made.

Do not forget to add your favourite stationaries to the tablespace you have left. You can also throw in small plants here and there to complete the look of the library.

Library for Lavish Homes

Those of you who have the opportunity of furnishing an entire room for a library can take ideas from the following.

Set a Mood

The best way to set the mood in any room is to play with the lighting. If you have a grand room dedicated to the library, then you suggest you get a chandelier with a dimmer switch. This will create a very chic reading atmosphere inside the room.

However, do not only depend on the chandelier as your main source of light in the room. Invest in lamps for reading. You could also use mood lighting here and there to set a different moody ambience to the room.

Walls

Grand library spaces require pretty walls to make sure that all the elements fight right in. You can opt for French wall designs to make it look cosy yet royal.

The next thing that you can do is choose a colour or wallpaper for the walls. We would suggest going for neutral tones like palace green or off-white. You can also choose darker shades like maroon or any other colour that suits your taste.

Book Shelves

Up next, customize the bookshelves. You will find plenty of inspiration from Pinterest if you don’t know which style to go for. You can even buy second-hand ones to give off a rustic look to the library.

Seating

Try getting different chairs to fill up the whole space. Once you have set aside a couple to pair with the tables, you can push in a few couches or sofas here and there to make a mix and match of all things nice and cosy.

Do not forget to buy throw pillows for the couches, as well as a few rugs to be placed under the chairs. You can also invest in soft woollen blankets for the cold winter nights when you are up reading.

Table

As for tables, you can place four legged tables as per your preference. Although, it would be fun to create a single large table for everyone to share, you can still add two or three small ones in case its privacy you’re looking for.

Curtains

Lastly, get curtains which will complement the whole mood of the room. Opt for lighter colours or a see through fabric to let in the sunlight during the day.

There’s a lot more that you can do if you have a huge space to furnish a library. You can bring in a few plants, stationaries, additional furniture, paintings, board games and anything else that you can think of.

Conclusion

Remember, no matter how big or small the space it, it is possible to make the most of it if you plan it right. Therefore, we would suggest you to brainstorm as much as you can before you start to execute your plan.
